Because I Said So
This is a cute chick flick but not one that will make a classic. Diane Keaton succeeded in making her character so annoying that she made me uncomfortable. I was so surprised that Lauren Graham and Piper Perabo would take such a backseat in this film and that Mandy Moore was more the lead. Mandy Moore was surprisingly great in this film. I can see how studios are using her... she can act and no out of control antics. And let me say... Gabriel Macht, who plays the love interest for Mandy Moore's character, is hot. He is one handsome dude. Hope that he is in the film where he is the main character soon. I'd give him 4 out of 4. ha ha ha the film however is a 2 1/2 out of 4. Monday, July 16, 2007
The Good Shepherd
Brilliantly directed by Robert De Niro. This film was subtly fascinating. The film follows Edward Wilson in a world of intelligence for the United States government. How his childhood helped him develop a character and skill to be successful but how it also brings upon scars to his family. I really enjoyed this intelligent and well directed film. 3 out of 4

Penelope Cruz was nominated for an oscar for this movie. I am not a fan of hers. Every film I've seen her in, I was just not impressed with her. She's oddly pretty but not beautiful. So I was interested in seeing this film. I enjoyed it. It was a very good film. Cruz was very good in it. but I'm still not a fan though. I don't know what it is but something about her bothers me. 3 1/2 out of 4

Little Children
A very dramactic film that deals with serious issues. One married woman discontent with her life and one married mandiscontent with his spells T-R-O-U-B-L-E. Perhaps inspired by the book Madame Bovary, the film is created in a flow that is intriguing, comedic, and tragic. I don't quite understand how the sex offender was in relation to the other characters. It was interesting to see a film that dealt with such complex emotions and issues and only can it be done successfully through brilliant actors. 3 out 4
This film inspires me to work hard in my marriage and to really lift up my significant other. How easy it is to go about the day like a robot and not even once glance over to your partner and give a word of encouragement or acts of kindness.
It reminded me of a discussion I had with a friend and how she told me that women need to be wise in their marraiges and how important it is to lift up their husbands in love and encouragement. In the movie, I see the character Brad and how he just feels so emasculated by his wife because she is the breadwinner and he's a stay at home dad. His failure to pass an exam that he clearly doesn't really care for just adds to his despair and leads him in an affair that he later regrets. My friend tells me this story a CEO of a company and his wife stop at a gas station. The wife goes in to get some snacks and drinks and the man that pumped the gas in to their car goes in to get change. The CEO notices that the wife and the man that pumped their gas exchanged a few words. The wife returns to the car and the CEO asked if she new the gas guy. She answered that they dated in high school. Then the CEO laughs and said, "hey, you could have been a wife of a guy that worked at a gas station." And she turned and looked at her husband and said," No sweetie, if I married him, he'd be the CEO of a company and you'd be the guy pumping gas." Love it!

Charlotte's Web

An absolutely wonderful film. It captures EB Whites values and life lessons from the book. I read it so many years ago that I didn't quite remember the specifics of it but all I did remember was that it was a great book when I read it. Julia Robert was the voice of Charlotte and she was perfect for it. In its final scenes, I became a faucet of tears. Tears just streaming down my face and I was intently watching Emma. She was staring at the screen and she didn't move one muscle. She was so still sitting in front of me. I couldn't see her face. I was wondering if I should explain to my 4 year old daughter about death. I decided not to and told her to come sit next to me. She came and sat next to me and I cuddled with her for the rest of the movie. She turned to me and saw the tears running down my face. "Mommy, why is your face leaking?" I laugh. and then she goes "Water is going down your face" I laugh even more. In the movie, ant bully ( I highly recommend watching) the ant asks that to the human boy. I find it funny that she'd repeat that so naturally. I absolutely love this film. 4 out 4

Harsh Times

I wanted to watch this film because I'm such a fan of Christian Bale. (batmen returns, The prestige) I am amazed of the range of his acting ability. And he's so easy on the eyes. ;) This plot was this downward spiral where nothing gets better and it's just so tragic. The only thing worth watching is Christian Bale but other than that it's not worth watching.

Back when I heard they were looking for a new James Bond, I was skeptical. I didn't think they could ever find a Bond that would be as good as Sean Connery. They failed with Pierce Bronsan and how I hated that Connery was no longer double o 7. Then I hear Daniel Craig was chosen and the only time I saw him was when he had a co-starring role in Munich (excellent film). He wasn't the star and didn't get much face time. I was very disappointed. How can the studios fail again. However, I was very pleasantly surprised. Daniel Craig is James Bond. He has the sexy charisma of James Bond. The film was exciting and even though I was a bit lost with the plot, it was still entertaining to watch. Great action film. 3 out of 4hollywoodland

I wanted to watch this movie because I heard Ben Affleck was wonderful in this movie. I didn't realize that he was basically the best thing in the movie. And he was alright. I wouldn't be giving him a standing ovation or anything. After the movie, I did want to read up on George Reeves the actor. How much he wanted to be considered a serious and brilliant actor but got stuck doing Superman on TV. I get that but I didn't get everything else in the movie. 1 1/2 out 4
Borat

I'm not really into this kind of humor. I see the appeal. A foreigner coming to America and is misunderstood. Growing up with a mother trying to survive America as a Korean immigrant, there were many times she created embarassing moments when thought back were hilarious moments. However, I didn't like this movie and I don't if it was partly b/c I heard from other people how hilarious this movie was. I expected to be rolling around the floor laughing throughout the movie but I was so disappointed. 1 out 4
The Holliday

This was a sweet sweet movie. I really enjoyed this one. It was predictable but it was very entertaining to watch. I absolutely love Kate Winslet. Not only is she an excellent dramatic actress, she can do a comedy too. I usually find Cameron Diaz very annoying to watch but she was bearable in this movie. I love the scene where it was Kate Winslet on the phone with Jude law and Diaz calls in and Winslet had a little problem with the call waiting. Hilarious. 3 out 4

Rocky Balboa
The final installment (at least I hope so) of the Rocky movies, is much better than the last one but not as good as the first one. This movie was like an old friend that I haven't seen in awhile and it was nice reminiscing old times. I think I was more excited seeing Milo Ventimiglia (Peter Petrelli in NBC's Heroes) . I love how Rocky is still so in love with his wife Adrian. He knew from the moment he laid eyes on her that she was the one. Sylvestor Stallone should lay off on the botox though. He looked kind of unnatural. Well I give the movie 2 out of 4.Wednesday, June 13, 2007
A Good Year

A surprisingly pleasant film staring Russell Crowe. The movie is no where near "The Gladiator" caliber but it was watchable. I thought Crowe was wittly funny and even though it would have been easy to hate his character, he gave him a sensitivity which enabled me to like him. The supporting cast was very good as well. The movie soundtrack also gave aid to the movies package. Also, the beautiful scenery was a plus, too. I give it 2 1/2 out of 4.
