The King

The King is an independent film that I just heard about and thought I'd watch it. It's a very dark film and it starts off very interesting. Elvis played by Gael Garcia Bernal, seeks out his father who he's never met. His father played by William Hurt is a successful pastor of a church and he rejects Elvis because he is a reminder of his scandoulous mistake before he came to Christ. I heard great things about the acting ability of Bernal but he was very blank in this film. I wasn't quite sure if he was vindictive and wanted to bring down his father or he was just psycho. The movie moved along great but towards the middle when you were expecting the huge climax of the film, it never really was there. It left me feeling... "that's it". hmmm... it makes you think. if all Elvis wanted was to be a part of a family but why did he murder and why did he let himself have incestuous relationship with his half-sister.

The best acting in the film was Pell James and Paul Dano and they were supporting roles. They played Elvis's half sister and brother. Interesting film... and as my hubs said, " what a waste of time!" 1 out of 4
