I really enjoyed this film. I loved the artistry of this movie. Hubs could not wait it out and he left to do something else in the middle of the film. He was so frustrated and he mumbled," what is going on.. this is so bad!" I didn't mind not knowing. With each scene, they revealed new things but nothing seemed to click to together. Things just seem to get messier and messier and more confusing. You're just waiting for the climatic scene that will bring everything together. Hubs unfortunately couldn't wait it out and he didn't watch the end. The end did not disappoint. The ending was the best part and I feel it was worth the wait. When the revelation was made you see what the movie was all about. I just loved the idea of it. Dicaprio was in this fantasy world to escape the dark tragedy he went through. Michelle Williams who came in and out like an eerie ghost wasn't endearing but just a bit creepy. And the scene where you find out what really happened... coming home and finding his wife gone completely mad and his children. His poor children... Dicaprio is an actor that really tries to master his craft and it shows. He is so smart. He is getting good with each movie he does. I'd like to see him do a romantic comedy. I have yet to see "Inception" and can not wait.
I love how it ends... knowing it's his last chance before he's labotomized... He comes to his senses and he comes back to reality but the pain of what he had done to his wife and indirectly to his children. The reality of his loss was too much for him hence the fantasy world he created. He chooses not live with the knowledge of his pain, he chooses to pretend that he is still Teddy Daniels and let them lobotomize him. You think he went back into his fantasy world when he talks to his psychatrist who went to DeCaprio to see if their intervention sticked but then DeCaprio's character says this.."I wonder, is it better to live like a monster, or die a good man." And you know that he's sane but is acting crazy to "die as a good man".
It is such a great film!
